If you’ve ever posted a listing for your vacation rental on Airbnb, you’ve probably noticed that some owners have Airbnb Superhost status. This is because the site distinguishes particularly experienced and successful hosts in this way. In our guide, you’ll learn what exactly an Airbnb Superhost is, what the benefits of this status are for short-term rental owners, and what the requirements are for obtaining it.
Airbnb defines Superhosts on its website as follows:
“As a Superhost, you’ll have more visibility, earning potential, and exclusive rewards. It’s our way of saying thank you for your outstanding hospitality.”
The Airbnb Superhost status therefore distinguishes an experienced and trustworthy host from the rest. With the Superhost badge, future travelers can identify these hosts at a glance.
With this program, Airbnb therefore wants to improve the traveler experience and offer them a guarantee of quality. After all, the booking platform wants travelers to have a positive travel experience during their stays in vacation rentals they booked through Airbnb and want to do it again.
You don’t need to make a special application to become an Airbnb Superhost. That said, there are four important criteria to earn the Airbnb Superhost badge:
To earn Airbnb Superhost status, you must have an average rating of at least 4.8 from your travelers over the past 365 days. So make every effort to get positive reviews. This way, Airbnb wants to make sure that you are an exemplary host and that your past travelers have been satisfied with the services offered.
In addition, you must have been responsible for more than 10 stays or 3 long-term stays. Airbnb wants to make sure that you have enough experience as a host to provide an excellent experience to travelers.
A low cancellation rate allows your future travelers to be sure that everything is in order in your vacation rental and that you are a worthy and reliable host.
A cancellation in a case of force majeure will not bring you any worries.
You must answer 90% of new questions related to traveler booking requests within 24 hours to qualify as an Airbnb Superhost. Note that a short response to travelers is sufficient.
Even if you are not able to provide an immediate solution to every request, you must at least briefly respond that you are addressing it quickly to get a satisfactory response rate.
The evaluation and audit period occurs 4 times a year (quarterly evaluation) and lasts 5 days:
Then you will be informed if you qualify as an Airbnb Superhost.
Please note that it can take up to 7 days for the Superhost badge to appear on your listing and profile.
Airbnb will notify you via email if you have earned, retained or lost your Superhost status. Since reviews take place every three months, the platform recommends tracking your progress on your “Host Dashboard”:
Click on the “Performance” section to access “Superhost“. This will show you where you stand.
If you get the badge, congratulations! You’ll easily earn the trust of travelers.
Keep in mind that the badge is temporary and that you must provide outstanding service and an overall rating of 4.8 to keep it. See the detailed requirements earlier in this guide.
The Airbnb Superhost badge will give your vacation rental on Airbnb a boost and inspire confidence in future travelers. The expected result and the perceived benefits are well worth the effort.
